Several years ago, Dr. Kamoo was asked to conduct an "immigration evaluation" for a prominent Detroit-area immigration attorney.  At the time, it was not understood what the assessment involved nor how it would benefit the client.  This prompted curiosity and led to meetings with other immigration attorneys to gain further knowledge about the process.  Along with careful empirical and didactic research, Dr. Kamoo began recognizing the value of a comprehensive psychological evaluation in describing and explaining the immigrant's psychological and emotional functioning as they deal with the various stages of the immigration process.  Since that first evaluation, the offices of Immigration Psychology Associates (IPA) have been serving numerous immigration attorneys and their clients by providing valuable diagnostic immigration evaluations and immigration court testimony.   

Historically, immigration cases had consisted of attorneys advocating for their clients through the completion of legal paperwork and subsequent presentation of their client’s cases.  In their consultative role, Dr. Kamoo and his colleagues complement the attorney's work by performing thorough and comprehensive diagnostic evaluations assessing matters of extreme hardship, asylum, VAWA, family separation consequences, medical waivers, fear of persecution, best interests of the child, and cultural competency for the attorneys that seek his services.
